At least 30 children living without means, of healthcare or otherwise, on the periphery of the Congo community of Kinshasa will now be able to have the operations needed to improve their illnesses thanks to the help of Ayuda Social from la Fundación Mutua Madrileña which has backed our project “Ayudémosles a jugar” (Lets Help them Play) with a 33,000 euro fund. The money will go towards surgery for the young boys and girls who otherwise couldn´t afford this care in collaboration with our member in the Democratic Republic of Congo, CECFOR.
The most common afflictions are clubfeet and axial alignment problems of the posterior limbs. This disability is a prominent limitation on the lives of these children. Amongst other resulting disadvantages, clubfeet impedes children from going to college, getting good jobs in the future, being independent, or even having a family. These children are marginalized because of their disability and are considered a burden to their family and society.
Many of these children are brought to the Hospital Monkole from it´s many medical clinics in towns like Kinshasa where the only access is through 4x4 vehicles. The following video shows an interview with Dr. Echami, Chief of the Trauma and Orthopedic unit.
